Why change only the fronts
METOD cabinets are sturdy, modular and affordable. The fronts carry all the character of the kitchen. Replacing them gives you a cabinetmaker's finish while keeping the IKEA structure, on a controlled budget.
Criterion 1: the panel core
Two materials dominate the market: particleboard and MDF. Particleboard, made of wood particles bonded under pressure, is light and economical. MDF, made of fine fibres, offers a homogeneous density, clean machining on edges and profiles, and good screw retention. Every technical sheet states the core used: that is the first line to read.
Criterion 2: the surface
Real wood veneer, lacquer, paint, laminate or decorative film: appearance, feel and repairability vary widely. A real oak veneer shows a unique grain on every front and accepts light sanding for repair.
Criterion 3: the edges
Wood-veneered edge, ABS edge, lacquered edge: ask which one is applied and how it is bonded. This is the most exposed area of a kitchen front, around the sink as well as the dishwasher.
Criterion 4: the finish
Number of coats, type of varnish or lacquer, quality control before shipping: these details make the difference over the years.
