IKEA kitchen fronts: reviews and technical comparison of materials
Before ordering fronts for an IKEA kitchen, most customers read the reviews. They tell you a lot about service, lead times and how the delivery looks. To judge the material itself, a few technical markers usefully complete the picture.
What customer reviews tell you
Responsiveness of the service, quality of the packaging, accuracy of the colours, lead times kept: reviews are a valuable source on the buying experience. Read the recent ones first, those with photos, and those describing the installation.
What the technical sheet tells you
The core, the surface, the edges and the finish. These four lines describe the front you will live with every day, and every maker will share them on request.
Comparing the cores
Particleboard. Light, economical and widely used in furniture. Its edges call for careful protection.
MDF. Fine fibres, homogeneous density, precise machining. Ideal for profiles, frames and mouldings.
Plywood. Strong mechanically, with exposed edges often sought after in architect-designed kitchens.
Solid wood. The nobility of raw material, with the natural movement of wood to plan for in the design.
The right questions to ask
Which core, and what density? Which species and what veneer thickness? Which type of edge? How many finish coats? A serious maker answers each one precisely.
